Reading is not only an essential skill for everyday life, but also a timeless way for young minds to access the wisdom of the ages.
While we tend to focus on teaching children how to read in their early years in our programme, it’s equally important to ensure that they can read with understanding. This means helping your child not only sound out words, but also comprehend the meaning of words or sentences and relating them to his/her own life.
MindChamps Reading was designed with precisely this goal in mind.
An immense treasury of tales, facts and stories awaits between the pages of every book. Your child has only to learn how to make sense of it all.
Regardless of his/her current aptitude, MindChamps Reading will help your child master essential skills to read with confidence and joy.
Instead of traditional rote learning, our reading programme focuses on developing your child’s 3 Minds (Champion, Learning and Creative) to make him/her a more proficient reader. This includes:

To enjoy reading, children must be actively engaged in the process, for this will help them read aloud with rich expression. Once your child develops a love for reading, he/she will be able to tackle writing with ease.
Your child will go through the four important areas of language: reading, writing, speaking and listening. The more your child understands how these areas work, the more he/she will be able to analyse written text and think about the meaning behind sentences. These are important skills that will benefit your child throughout the school years.
Narrative intelligence is the ability to generate innovative answers through sequential understanding and unique ways of asking the right questions. Our reading programme builds this skill in your child through immersive reading and theatrical strategies, which will then develop his/her higher–order thinking skills as he/she learns to ‘interact’ with written content and knowledge.
Phonemic awareness is the ability to ‘hear’ and manipulate the individual sounds of a language. For your child to improve his/her reading ability, he/she needs to learn how to hear these sounds in meaningful contexts.
Through exposure to reading activities at our programme, your child will become aware of words as individual units and develop a sense of the sounds of words as he/she writes.
In our reading programme, we use our unique ‘Say & Sing Phonics’ method to help your child master the connection between symbols and sounds (phonics) by experiencing their correlation in a meaningful context.
As an early reader, it is important for your child to learn and understand the natural flow and rhythm of the language. Through engaging experiences with rhyme, rhythm, repetition and songs, your child will become familiar with the language and achieve language fluency.
Knowing and understanding a huge collection of words goes a long way towards building a skilled reader in your child. With an extensive collection of e-books in MindChamps’ Read-Along app, your child will grow his/her vocabulary through stories, rhymes and alliteration, making vocabulary-building an easy and fun process.
Structural awareness will help your child to recognise how words in a sentence fit together. Through the sharing of conversations, stories, poems, songs and ideas verbally, your child will discover how language is constructed and be able to relate new words and phrases back to what he/she has read before.
