The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) is a system through which the Australian government allocates funds to bring down the cost of childcare for Australian families who meet certain requirements.
This takes the form of a percentage by which school fees can be decreased and is calculated based on the following:
Your Child Care Subsidy percentage is calculated based on your family’s total income. These numbers change with the CPI increase each year, which means that your entitlements can differ year to year even if your circumstances stay the same.
Family Income | Child Care Subsidy Percentage |
---|---|
$0 – $68,163 | 85% |
$68,163 – $173, 163 | 50% to 85% |
$173,163 – $252,453 | 50% |
$252,453 – $342,453 | 20% to 50% |
$342,453 – $352,453 | 20% |
$352,453 or more | 0% |
Once your combined annual income exceeds $188,163, a Child Care Subsidy cap will become applicable, which amounts to $10,373 per child.

Your required care hours are based on the Activity Levels & Hours of the least active member of your family per fortnight.
Centrelink will determine the hours of Child Care Subsidy that you are eligible for based on your activity, which takes the following into consideration:
Your rate of reduction is based on the lowest rate of either the school fees or the capped hourly rate. The hourly rate is capped at $11.98 for long daycare services. Most long daycare sessions last 11 hours, so services that charge less than $131.78 per day will yield a lower rate for you.
